The topic of this lengthy unit focuses on phonology and pronunciation. As stated at the beginning of the unit, pronunciation should also be part of instruction, but for various reasons that are also mentioned, it is frequently left out by teachers.
After an explanation of both terms, the unit is divided into several parts that are closely analyzed and pay attention to intonation, stress, rhythm and articulation.
The study material is simplified with the help of charts, diagrams and pictures with descriptions. A particularly interesting part of the unit is a table of phonemic symbols.I learnt the modal verbs (and semi-modals), their different uses and nuances. I also learnt what relative clauses (defining and non-defining relative clauses), what are the three types of phrasal verbs (intransitive, transitive separable and transitive inseparable), and what is the passive voice - how do we form (to be + past participle form when the tense of the active sentence remains the same in the passive). I learnt how to explain these form to the students and what activities I could give them (such as re-writing activities to the passive form for the study stage, for example).
