This by far was one of the hardest units to understand for potential lesson planning. As a native English speaker, I took for granted how easily it was to pronounce different words without needing to be taught the roots of how your mouth and throat work in conjunction. The teaching techniques of the pronunciation of individual sounds made me rethink from an ESL learner perspective. The ways our teeth, back of the throat, and tongue move to form new sounds to indicate different meanings and contexts is very interesting. It reminded me of the many games my english teachers in elementary school would try their best to incorporate many games in our lessons to make it more entertaining and fun. This by far was my favourite units, albeit challenging. One important aspect about this unit was the emphasis to try an get ESL learners to sound like a native english speaker as much as possible. Through sound dropping, sound linking, extra lettering are all useful in the pursuit of the English language flowing naturally out of the students mouths.
