There are five conditionals.
1) Zero conditional / If/when+present tense,present tense. It refers to irrefutable actions and facts.
2) First conditional / If+present simple+will. This is used for a real situation in the future which is possible or even certain once the condition has been satisfied.
3) Second Conditional / If+past simple,modals( would/could/might)+ base form .It refers to present or future unreal situation which is presently not true.
4)Third conditional / If+past perfect,would/could/might+have+Past participle. It refers to hypothetical past action and result.
5) MÄ±xed conditional / Ä±f+past perfect,would+base form .It refers to hypotheticalpast action or state and hypothetical present consequence.
It is said to convey the sentence someone said. While the direct sentences are transmitted indirectly, \"one step back\" rule is applied and the transmitted sentence is expressed one step before. Like following:
If the direct speech is simple past tense it transmitted to past perfect tense.
