Unit 16 presents topics on conditionals and reported speech. Conditionals are sentences that contain \"if\" or \"when\". They refer to present, past or future possibilities. Zero conditional refers to actions that are irrefutable. First conditional refers to real situations in the future that is possible. Second conditional conveys a present or future unreal situation that is unlikely to be true. Third conditional is a hypothetical past action and a hypothetical past result. Mixed conditional is a combination of the second conditional clause and third conditional clause. On the other hand, direct speech pertains to the exact words/phrases/sentences spoken/uttered by a person. The direct speech is always enclosed with quotation marks. Verbs in the present tense, whether simple, perfect or progressive, are changed into past form. Verbs in the past simple and past continuous are changed into past perfect and past perfect continuous respectively. Finally, verbs in the past perfect and past perfect continuous remain the same.
