This unit, similarly to unit 4, discussed verb tenses-- oftentimes very complicated subjects for English students to grasp as there are many irregulars and uses for each tense. This chapter covered the past simple, past perfect, past perfect continuous, and past continuous tenses. Past simple is used to describe a completed action that happened in the past, \"Yesterday I ate food,\" is a very simple example of this-- the time is defined, the action took place in a given window and was completed. This is the simplest past tense. Past perfect, \"When he arrived I had already eaten,\" indicates an order of events, the past simple (when he arrived) is the definite time period, and the indefinite (I had already eaten) indicates that I had eaten at some undefined point before he arrived, and that I was no longer eating. The unit goes into descriptions about the past continuous and past perfect continuous tenses as well, along with questions to prompt students, explanations and examples for the classroom.
