This unit reviewed modal auxiliary verbs, passive voice, and phrasal verbs. I am glad that this unit finally got into the concept of formality, because while there is not a distinct formal grammar, like in Korean, for example, there is a way of talking and putting together words that conveys formality. It may be harder to teach formality in English for that exact reason, but it is not impossible with practice. Similarly, phrasal verbs are something that many native speakers have trouble with, depending much on what 'sounds right' rather than a knowledge of rules or types of phrasal verbs. Since there are so many with so many different rules, I agree with the unit's assertion that learners will come to grasp these with use and practice; the more you hear it used, the easier it will be to remember. Passive voice has much more definite rules for how to form it, but explaining its many uses in English is important as it brings a social and cultural knowledge of English usage to the classroom.
