In Unit 2 I have learned about the parts of speech that make up sentences in the English language. Each word in a sentence can be further classified, according to its purpose and the meaning it adds. There are nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, articles, pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions, and so on. I have learned about sentence structure and the correct order of the parts of speech. It has also been highlighted that there are a lot of exceptions to most grammar rules. For example, there are many irregular verbs that do not follow the standard rule of adding –ed for past simple, past participle and present participle. Plus, a great number of nouns will change when made plural, instead of just adding an –s at the end. Students of English will just have to memorise these exceptions and irregularities. However, as a teacher I imagine there must be a lot of fun games you can organise to help memorisation and make it fun at the same time!
