In unit 7, we discussed the teaching of new language. We covered the teaching of vocabulary, grammar and functions. Within each subject, we discussed what was most important to convey to the students given their priorities. We also covered various activities that we can use during the various teaching phases (engage, study, activate) and patterned new sample lessons based on structures we've learned in previous lessons (examples of straight arrow lessons, patchwork lessons and boomerang lessons).There is more to being a teacher than merely English exercises and writing on the board. An effective teacher will use supplementary materials to assist learning, and to keep the students active and engaged. Bored or uninterested students are not effective learners. An effective ESL classroom will have a variety of tools and equipment to help students learn well.
I feel that, from this unit, I have learned about various possibilities for supplementary learning resources and how to use them well.
