Unit 10 was all about showing what a good lesson is versus a bad lesson. It also emphasized the idea that the teacher's attitude influences student participation and engagement. In the first video, the teacher didn't introduce himself or ask the students for their names. He jumped right in and didn't have a very positive attitude. He kept telling the students how easy the lesson was but never described the lesson to them. This made the students hesitant to join in. There is also no group work or student-talk in the first video. This seems to isolate the students from each other and lower engagement. The first video also lacks clear directions. Students will not be able to complete an activity if they do not know what to do. In the second video, all of the above critiques are resolved. Students are much more engaged and involved. This unit shows how important it is to create a lesson plan and keep student engagement always at the forefront.
