This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
As a teacher, knowing how to adapt to any level of student is a necessity. When it comes to beginner students, learning patience and encouragement is key. I would personally learn as much as I could about what level English they're working with and go from there. I would make sure to plan my lessons beforehand as much as possible, and make them interesting and fun to keep the students' attention and keep in mind that simplicity is key when starting out. However teaching individual students versus a group also takes adaptation. When it comes to teaching individuals, they might seem more intimidated since they do not have group members to relate to or work with. Instead, all of the attention is on them. This can be de-motivating but it can also work for others. For some, working one-on-one may be favorable since it gives the teacher more time to completely understand that student's needs/weaknesses/strengths and tailor their lesson to that.
