This unit covered the creation and utilization of lesson plans. Prior to this chapter, a lesson plan seemed like the big missing piece of feeling prepared for a lesson. With this in mind, I was curious to find so much advice in this unit about not using a lesson plan. Obviously, for a new teacher, a more structured plan is beneficial. There's a set goal for both the students and teacher. There's a well-defined course of events. For a more experienced teacher, this much planning isn't beneficial. When the teacher knows their class and knows how to teach the subject well, they can teach the lesson more effectively by having a general plan. The general plan is then modified and adapted in real time by the experienced teacher allowing the students to receive a lesson that is more specific to their challenges. The empty lesson plan and self-evaluation sheets will be very valuable resources in the earlier stages of my teaching career.
