The future tenses can be confusing as there are several different ways to refer to the future and the difference between them is not always straightforward. It’s also noteworthy that the present simple and the present continuous which are normally used as present tenses, can also be used to talk about the future. For example, “The flight leaves in half an hour†and “We’re meeting in the city tomorrowâ€, respectively. The future tenses include the future simple (e.g. “I’ll cook spaghetti for dinnerâ€), the future continuous (e.g. “I will be vacationing in Hawaii this yearâ€), the future perfect (e.g. “I will have read 5 books by the end of the monthâ€), the future perfect continuous (e.g. “I will have been living overseas for 21 years this Augustâ€) and be going + infinitive (e.g. “I am going to swim laterâ€).
