It was interesting to see in this unit the difference between controlled activities, guided activities and creative communication. Each one of these activities obviously lead into the next, but I hadn't realised this until I read it. I found the guidelines for a free creating speaking activity very useful as well. The fact that some students will have to learn to use a different alphabetical system was an aspect I hadn't thought of before. The teaching of spelling describes how English is not a phonetic language and how pronunciation must be thought for the different letter as well as combination of letters and I'm looking forward to reading the unit on teaching pronunciation. I've been supplementing the material provided on this course with How to teach English, but I still have doubts on a few issues. I'll need to find more material in order to resolve some of the questions I have.
