This unit discussed briefly the different materials a teacher might use in their class. It discussed some advantages and disadvantages of using authentic material and material especially created to teach English. It also mentioned advantages and disadvantages of using a course book, things to consider when choosing a course book (if you get the chance to) and how you might adapt the book to your students' needs and your own teaching. It also warned not to slavishly follow the book and lose your own creativity.This unit talked about the various aspects of lesson planning. It addressed whether or not it is even necessary and proceeded to illustrate a comprehensive example of a lesson plan about animals. It helped to reinforce the engage-study-activate phases of a lesson and also helped to review all the necessary parts of a lesson plan. I liked this lesson, because I feel from experience that as a general rule, planning a lesson as well as being flexible and allowing for a plan B is very important in the classroom.
