This unit focused on modals, phrasal words, and the passive voice. Modals are used to add meaning to the main verb and they are used for a variety of usages: advice, ability, obligation, permission, and possibility. The unit also provided great teaching exercises for modals. Additionally, the material explained the usage of the passive voice. The passive voice is usually used when focus of the sentience is on the object or action, because the person performing the action is not known or not important.One of the ways I learn another language is through reading and visualizing the words in my head. Not only do I see how grammar is structured, I also learn new words in the process. I read billboard signs, menus and any other public display. At the same time, my language skills improve because from reading, the words stay in my head. This unit stresses the importance of reading and listening-- two interlinked receptive skills. When I read more, I listen better and when I listen, I read better as well.
