This unit describes when and how to use the past tense forms, among which are the past simple, past perfect, past continuous and past perfect continuous. This unit taught me that the past tense can be a tricky tense to learn. Irregular simple past form, for example, has no rules to help students understand when an irregular verb is used or how they are formed. Fortunately, this unit provides various ideas, including games, journaling and flash cards, to help students learn the tricky parts of the past tense.This unit dives deeper into appropriate teaching methods; this time specifically for English vocabulary, grammar and functions. It briefly highlights the unique characteristics of each section and then applies the familiar ESA method to it. Although at first glance it seems the lesson is stating the obvious, I think many schools are stuck applying 'classic techniques', such as drilling, classroom reading, etc. My takeaway from this unit is to vary the techniques and play around with different ESA structures.
