This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit eleven covers the receptive skills in language: reading and listening. Unlike productive skills, such as speaking and writing, students are receiving language rather than creating their own utterances or sentences. Both receptive and productive skills are important to teach because in order for a student to properly succeed at learning a language it is best that they become interpersonal, in that they can receive and produce the language they're learning. The unit goes over specific aspects in which we read and listen and then covers some problems that teachers might face when trying to teach the receptive skills. I've studied the importance of both receptive and productive skills in my linguistics classes, but this unit helped me better understand the different ways in which you can teach receptive skills and what I must be careful of when doing so.
