This unit discussed the choice of course books and materials not published scholastically, known as authentic materials. Early language acquisition for a first language is almost entirely authentic. As a child we learn bigger words from listening to the radio, or from our parents reading books to us. My 5-year-old niece does this all the time. We asked her if she was excited that Grandpa was coming to visit, and she said, \"Indeed, Indeed I am!\" I recognized it as a line from the bedtime story she had been read the night before. Students will never become fluent language users outside the classroom setting if they do not make the jump from curriculum to authentic material. Course books are a strategic plan. They are a thorough plan with concrete instructions. They will need to be adapted to become more interesting to the specific needs of the students.
