This unit covers evaluation and testing while discussing why certain tests are given. There are many tests that are given to students throughout the teaching and learning process. Different tests are given for different reasons. One of the most common tests when starting a new class is the placement test. This test is used to determine the students level. Progress tests are used throughout the course to check level of understanding, and to see areas that need to be worked on. There are the external examinations that are taken after completing English courses, which in most cases becomes a requirement. Whatever the test, the grading is always done fairly. In the end the result is for English students to gain fluency in the language. The external examinations when required are very useful for the students to become certified in for their future goals.
