Pronunciation can be a challenging aspect of Enlglish to teach. Native speakers, including teachers, are often unaware of the various intonations used and stresses applied in their own speech making it difficult to effectively present to ESL students. It is important for a teacher to understand the implied meanings behind the intonations and stresses, such as rise and fall patterns. Perhaps the technique that I have found most useful in teaching sounds is to overemphasize parts of a word with my own mouth. One idea I liked from this unit is to pull up a diagram or visual aid to show students where and how a sound is being formed in the mouth. I believe that the \"as and when required\" approach to teaching pronunciation is best-suited to my teaching style. Letting in pop into the lesson naturally eases the flow of the lecture in my opinion.
