Teachers should be flexible and creative, and make a decision about how to use the provided coursebook based on the needs of their students. Coursebooks provide researched material, in an organized fashion, and are usually expected by the students. The disadvantage is they don't necessarily meet the needs of all students, because they are written for a general audience. Teachers can create their own materials or search for authentic materials to supplement or replace the given curriculum. Authentic materials give students practice with real-life situations and help build confidence, but they are not designed for the classroom, so finding the appropriate level for the students can be a challenge. Teacher created materials can be leveled appropriately for the students, because the teacher who knows them is creating the materials.
