This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
From my past experience in language and linguistics classes, I am familiar with the IPA, the places and manners of articulation of speech, and the importance of stress in a word in a sentence. Although I am familiar with these topics, reading this unit's suggestions of how to teach and explain them to EFL students was very helpful, especially the classroom strategies for learning English rhythm and intonation. The ideas of humming the the fluctuations of tone without word as well as using nonsense words seems a clever idea, and tapping out the beat of words to catch their rhythm should be a fun activity that improves pronunciation. One thing in particular that I hope to remember is to always give the correct example of intonation last so that it remains in their ears instead of the contrasting incorrect example of speech.
