Receptive skills are important as it helps in you in not only understanding the language but also the nuances of context that the language is being used. Reading things word for word and taking in the meaning literally does not give through understanding of what the reader is trying to communicate. There are different skills in reading and listening. Being able to use the correct skills like skimming or predicting lets the learner quickly discover the information they need and develop a certain type of understanding with the topic at hand. When teaching, generating interest into the topic being taught draws the learner in as they will be paying more attention and concentrating more in using their receptive skills. In the end, the student absorbs the material more readily as opposed to something they would get bored with.
