This unit is about evaluating the students' level of English. The main focus is on the various types of tests acording to their purpose: placement tests, practice tests, diagnostic tests, progress tests and external tests. Some are used to evaluate the current level and the progress of the students during a course (placement and progress tests) and some are to prepare for a specific external test that helps them obtain an official certificate (diagnostic and practice tests). Though there are various types of official external tests, the same test (like TOEFL) is differs in structure, depending on the country you take the test in. I took TOFEL in Japan which was a much more simplified version than the one taken in Romania. This came as a suprise. I would have liked more detailed information about how to create a test.
