I've learnt different techniques and activities to engage the students at the different levels of the ESA teaching method; Engage, Study, Activate, for both vocabulary and grammatical structures. For example when teaching vocabulary pictures and discussion at the engage stage, using crosswords and gap-fill in the study stage and finally role play and debating in the activate. Teaching language functions involves inviting, refusing, agreeing and disagreeing, it's vital for students in expressing opinions and allows them to integrate their learnt vocabulary into real life conversations. Using debating and role-play is the best way for the students to apply their knowledge and these activities can be used to help increase STT.
