In this Unit I was able to learn a lot about different methods and techniques of teaching the English language. As most of the learners have to study the language in a non native environment, teachers have to try to imitate a form of natural language acquisition. The most important point for teachers to always keep in mind in all stages of the lesson is to courage the students to use English instead of their L1. In order to do so, there are many different ways to hold an English lesson. A teacher should be able to apply as many of those given techniques as possible to make classes interesting. A student's span of attention mainly depends on how diversified a class is designed. Lacking in variety can often lead to distracted or even unmotivated students, regardless of their age or language level. One very important part of this unit was about how to decide which methodology works best. With so many approaches it can be difficult to decide which one is appropriate in which situation. However, the language level of learners should always be considered. Young learners are more likely to react positively to fun games in the different phases of ESA, while adult or more advanced learners could prefer challenging tasks, for example analysing texts or creative writing.
