This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 3 gave me information about main methods, techniques and theories of teaching. To achieve the goal of teaching, the teacher must adopt effective teaching methods. The teacher has many options to choose from, different techniques, designed specifically for teaching and learning.
Grammar - Translation, based on learning about the language through finding equivalents in the own language. Audio-Lingualism is based on repetition drills, Presentation, Practice and Production that includes three parts and more suitable for lower language level; CLT - a set of beliefs which included not only a re-examination of what aspects of language to teach but also a shift in emphasis on how to teach; The Silent Way - the teacher says as little as possible, interacting with physical objects, especially with Cuisenaire rods; Suggestopaedia-includes three parts and focuses on the students' confidence; The Lexical approach is based on learning words and phrases.
I have learned engage, study and activate methods as well, got bright examples and ideas of teaching strategies.
Whichever way you go about correcting your students, try to keep the experience positive for the learner. Being corrected constantly can be a really de-motivating, as every language learner knows. As you are listening out for your students? errors, make sure you also listen out for really good uses of language and highlight these to the group too.
