This unit provides a breakdown of the 'parts of speech', which entails how and why we use specific words in specific places in a sentence. It is very interesting as a native speaker of English to analyse and pull apart speech, which is something that come so intuitively in everyday usage. I feel that it is important for the very reason that it forces you to question the intuitive nature of speech and to attempt to understand the rules by which it is constructed. I can imagine that this is integral when trying to explain to a non-English speaker how to construct sentences. In general, it is important to understand why and how we indulge in particular practices if we wish to be able to teach another how to do so. I believe that this is an important aspect of teaching a language, in particular for being able to address students questions that pertain to understanding speech with enough knowledge to ensure that the learner has confidence in your capacity as a teacher.
