In this unit we went through the teaching receptive skills. We know that there are four basic skills in any language ? reading, listening, speaking and writing. All of them are important, so if we want to have effective lesson we need equally incorporate them into our classes. Receptive skills are reading and listening ? are divided into two wide-ranging categories ? for a purpose and for entertainment, or sometimes we can even get a mixture of these two. While planing the activities teachers need to remember about giving students pre-teaching materials and of course carefully select texts.Productive skills (writing and speaking) are being taught in this unit. When teaching a communicative activity to students the teacher must create the need and desire to communicate and to listen. When teaching writing and speaking it is always important to remember that we use both skills in a different way, we don?t speak exactly as we write. When writing we tend to write more formally and when we speak it is usually more informal. In this unit I have learnt the importance of games while teaching productive skills as well as the need to make the content interesting and appealing to the student.
