In Unit 13, I was able to learn a lot more about phonology, especially the different ways I can teach intonation to students using nonsense words, gestures, humming, singing and writing arrows or drawings on the board to describe the ups and downs on intonation and where to place it. I was very happy to get a chart of the phonemic symbols, I found that quite interesting and helpful. I also didn't know a lot about the place of articulation as it is something that we don't really think of as we speak, but once we start to slow down and hear where the sounds come from; it's quite fascinating! The content of this unit involves the use of ESA teaching technique in a real classroom as shown in the two videos provided. Two videos were provided showing a teacher teaching students in a classroom - the first video showed a bad example of a teaching technique while the second video showed a good example of an ESA teaching technique. The students were more comfortable and participated more in the second lesson. I have been able to reconcile the theoretical ESA teaching technique from previous course units with real examples through this course unit, which has increased my understanding.
