The receptive skills are listening and reading, because learners do not need to produce language to do these, they receive and understand it. When planning for a receptive skill lesson it is important for the teacher to choose text which is interesting to the learner, make use of different materials and engage the students in interesting activities derived from the main text. The teacher can write new vocabulary from the text on flash cards and pre-teach the words. There is quite a variety of different tasks the teacher can use to teach effective reading and listening skills. For example, use of puzzles, giving students? favorite novels to read and do a book review.
