In this unit, I learnt that there is ongoing debate as to the value of lesson planning. However, it is generally accepted that at least some level of lesson planning is essential (especially for inexperienced teachers), to guide teachers as they guide their students through the learning experience, and serve as a record of what does and does not work for them. At the same time, teachers should be aware not to excessively plan a lesson, as a lack of flexibility, variety and balance can mean the teacher fails to adapt to the changes that can occur in the classroom environment. This in turn can lead to the teacher's failure to cater to the needs and interests of the students, meaning the students may become disengaged and the teacher will not achieve their learner objectives and personal aims.
