This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit gave an introduction to the studies of linguistics, and gave a brief overview on phonology and phonetics. The difference between stress and intonation was made clear in the beginning. I then learned about both the MANNER and the PLACE of articulation (i.e. the place of e.g. the tongue, or whether air is released or not when making a sound). The sheets provided a copy of the IPA chart, and I was thus able to \"translate\" sentences written in the phonetic script into \"normal\" words. Apart from the linguistic material, there were tips provided on how to include this into lessons and what the best ways are to teach phonetic aspects to learners of the English language, such as tongue twisters, having a student read out something for his/her partner to write it down etc.
