Authentic materials may include magazines, new papers, ads, films, menus and audio from radio or other sources. The advantages of authentic materials is that they can be relevant to the student and so more interests, they can be creative and engaging, and more like real life. Created materials allow every student be using the same vocabulary and level of instruction, they are balanced with study skills, grammar and vocab, they can be attractive and appealing , easier for the teacher, and can allow student to move ahead if they want to see what is ahead or even work at their own pace. If you are using a course book you can omit parts if you feel they are not relevant, replace some part you want to , supplement with your own material the parts student might need more work on and adapt to make it your own style. When selecting a text book consider price, availability, design, methodology, skill level, syllabus, topics, teachers guide and what extra materials it might come with.
