Unit 5 helps future teachers to understand their own role in the classroom environment. The unit explains the main tools the teachers have to get their students' attention, such as the use of eye contact, gestures, and voice. It collects the advantages and disadvantages of different student groupings, and it also explains how different classroom setups create very different possibilities for activities and student monitoring. It focuses on Student Talking Time and how it could be increased, while Teacher Talking Time in decreased. Last, but not least, it describes how the teacher can gain the students' respect, which helps with maintaining discipline in the classroom.
