Unit 18 covered the topics of modal auxiliary verbs, passive voice, relative clauses and phrasal verbs. To start, the unit reviewed modal auxiliary verbs. These verbs are used before other verbs in order to convey obligation, ability, advice, possibility or permission. Some examples of modals are can, should, may, have to, will, need to, etc. Secondly, the unit reviewed passive voice, it's form, usages, and how each tense is used. The passive voice focuses on the subject instead of the agent, like the active voice. The passive voice is used the most when whoever performs the action is either not known, not important, or the speaker does not want to say. The unit continues to discuss relative clauses, which is a dependent clause that modifies a noun by giving further information or describing it.There are two types of relative clauses: defining and non-defining. Lastly, unit 18 reviewed the three types of phrasal verbs--transitive separable, transitive inseparable and intransitive.
