Even a teacher with well established rapport with their students and very well planned lessons can encounter some difficulties during class. This unit goes through some of the most frequent problems that can arise during class and offers solutions. A teacher may have to work with students who have different levels. He or she can then pair weaker students with stronger one or try to offer different material or different tasks to each group. Group work can prove very useful when teaching a class that has more than 30 students. A number of other solutions is suggested for dealing with large classes. The students may start using their mother language out of boredom or for lack of comprehension. The teacher needs to avoid these situations by providing clear instructions and material at the right level. The teacher may be face with reluctant students. They either lack confidence or suffer intimidation. The teacher can fix that by using pair work and role play to alleviate the pressure. The last difficulty mentioned in this unit is difficulties with listening. Although it can be hard or intimidating to use recorded texts, it is still very important to overcome this difficulty by pre-teaching difficult vocabulary and playing the tape many times or even providing the script. It is a very important step in learning and the students have the right to be exposed to it.
