With conditional sentences, we are talking about things that could happen with conditions. Words that conditional sentences must include are if and when. The zero conditional is a sentence used with present tense and is irrefutable. The first conditional is used with present simple and the word will. The first is used with things that could happen in the future. The second conditional is with past simple and involves the words could, would, and might. The second has something that is not true and probably won't become true. The third uses past perfect and would, could, and might. This is a hypothetical thing that could have happened in the past. The mixed has to do with present results of a hypothetical situation in the past.
