Unit 12 examines the expressive language skills (speaking and writing) in more detail. This unit provided an outline of what types of expressive language activities should occur in each stage of a typical ESA lesson as well as how to prepare to target and elicit expressive language skills. Pair-work, group-work, meaningful language targets, and guided conversations are suggested to facilitate verbal fluency. While writing is an important skill, it is often not targeted during ESL lessons, but rather set as homework tasks. Feedback is especially important to facilitate improvement and accuracy in both aspects of expressive language.
