Firstly, I have gained an in-depth knowledge of the use of authentic materials versus created materials. Each of these types of materials come with particular advantages and disadvantages that must be known and applied in order to meet the needs of my students and optimise my teaching efficacy in the classroom. Authentic materials are more realistic to the real life experiences of my students , while created materials provide more scope for creativity and can be tailor made to target a particular need or required language area of my class. Both must be used in tandem for effective classroom instruction. Secondly, the analysis of the application of the course book against that of teacher created materials illuminated the importance of being a switched on and effective teacher. It is very easy to fall into the bad habit of relying solely on the course book for teaching practice when much of the material could be boring or irrelevant for the needs of particular students. Parts of the course book that are irrelevant must be adapted, omitted or supplemented by more interesting or relevant materials. This ensures that I am providing enriching and engaging teaching instruction at all times.
