This unit teaches about the productive skills, namely speaking and writing. Writing is more difficult than speaking in that it requires accuracy, whereas speaking requires fluency, but less accuracy. When a teacher prepares content for this lesson, the content should be interesting enough to create a need and desire to speak. There are three types of activities that are used in speaking and writing lessons - controlled, guided, and creative. Controlled activities are accuracy- based, and are intoduced and controlled by the teacher. Guided activities are also accuracy-based, but are slightly more creative. They are planned by the teacher, but the teacher's role is more as a support rather than a contolller. Creative activities are fluency-based, and these activities are introduced by the teacher, but the students provide the content. In these activities the teacher will only provide feedback once the activities are completed.
