A first lesson can always be a bit scary for teachers. This unit gave some usefull tips on how to plan your first lesson. It is important to establish a rapport to find what level the students English skill is on. Start a first lesson with warmers. Play games like hangman or pictionary. Students might tend to fall back into talking in their native language during a class because, they want to help another student, or they might feel unable to express themselves. It is important to always make sure that your explanations are very clear and there is no need for students to reapeat them in their own language. If students speak in their own language dont answer, students shouldnt get used to the thinking that the teacher also understands them in their native language.
