I found this unit quite difficult, again because I am a native speaker this type of language use comes naturally to me so I had never studied it in depth before. The most important things to remember when using conditionals is that there are always two clauses in a conditional sentence (if and when), but that these can be used in alternating order in order to convey different meaning. For example \"If you boil water, there will be steam\" and \"when you boil water you get steam\". At first glance these appear to have the same basic meaning, but the use of the word \"if\" implies irrefutable fact whereas \"when\" appears more casual. Reported speech also follows a similar pattern, but a teacher must be very careful and precise when teaching this as there is a \"formula\" of sorts to follow. If students can internalise and ractice this they should have no problem in using this part of speech correctly.
