Listening and reading are known as ?receptive? skills while speaking and writing are known as ?productive? skills. All language learners will need to develop their skills in each of these areas. Listening, as with reading are a process of thinking under the stimulus of a speech or printed material. The teachers should think ahead a number of potential problems when teaching receptive skills. The actual content of message delivered should be within the intellectual range of the students. Besides that, a variety of topics should be presented over a period of time to cater for all interests. Last but not least, the tasks challenge that are presented should be realistically achievable in order to make their listening and reading actively rather than passively absorbing the content.
