This lesson gave us an overview of popular teaching methods including grammar-translation, audio-lingualism, PPP, task-based learning, communicative language teaching, community language learning, the silent way, suggestopaedia, the lexical approach and ESA. It taught us that the latter of these methods, ESA, is the most effective and how to do each part of the lesson. It outlined how to elicit information from students. It explained the different structures an ESA lesson can take such as the straight arrow lesson, the boomerang lesson and the patchwork lesson. It listed appropriate activities for each part and explained how to give feedback and do corrections in a way that keeps student motivation high. I found the the different activities to use during each part of the lesson informative and I learnt some new game ideas such as consequences and my marvelous machine. I also found the feedback and correction section useful especially the codes to use when marking written work.
