The Past Tenses - Past Continuous - Teaching Ideas

This video is part of our series on the past tenses in English. In this video, we take a look at the past continuous tense and suitable teaching ideas for this tense. The past continuous is very conducive to using pictures and talking about actions. We give our group of students cards with images and ask them to create sentences for what the people in the picture were doing at a certain time in the past.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching. This convenient, highly structured design means that you can quickly get to grips with each section before moving onto the next.

I have learnt many new useful internet websites and some new input for my C.V. I have found cultural issues very useful especially those regarding Asia. I have found the supplement at the end of unit 6 very useful. It would be very interesting for me to teach children under four. This unit has provided me with an understanding of how to run an effective lessons and the importance of attitude and structure so that the students are keen and ready to learn effectively. Overall the videos demonstrated how the ESA teaching methods are used in a practical way.Another unit about tenses - short but well explained. Past tenses are similar to present tenses, one can definitely discover a pattern. I myself will have to get some more example sheets but this is a good basic. I remember being past tenses taught - this will be tricky to teach.
