The Past Tenses - Past Simple - Mill Drill Activity

This video is part of our series on the past tenses in English. We start off the series with the past simple tense. In this video, we show you how to execute a mill drill activity for this tense. Here, the teacher provides the students with a survey or questionnaire with statements in the past simple tense. The students then go around the classroom and ask other students about their past experiences.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching. This convenient, highly structured design means that you can quickly get to grips with each section before moving onto the next.

This unit discussed past tenses. It is an important grammar lesson and it is vital for a teacher to have good knowledge of the subject. I learned this lesson in school so it was not new material but this chapter is very useful for when I will teach my future students this lesson.I believe this lesson was very informative, especially the language function part. I also liked how they tailored the ESA to fit vocab, grammar and language function. Another thing I liked is how the lesson is consistent with previous lessons which helps reinforce the ESA method. To be quite frank, I am very familiar with the parts of speech. None of this information was new to me, per se. Nonetheless, it is quite a refreshing review; I have not been in a class to study grammar in almost ten years. I'm surprised people don't enjoy discussing grammar more.
