This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 1 described what good teachers and good students look like and explained some of the basic roles of a teacher. Additionally, this unit defined the possible language levels of students and described the differences between adult students and younger to very young students. One of the most helpful things I learned from this unit that I hope to revisit and to apply in the future is the different roles a teacher can have. Model, Prompter, Facilitator, Observer/Monitor, Participant, and Tutor are all roles that I have practiced and that I feel comfortable filling. However, the other areas are also extremely important in creating and maintaining a good learning environment for students--Organizer is particularly important because a chaotic classroom makes teaching and learning difficult at best. So, I hope to learn about, observe, and practice those other roles more in order to be more felxible and adaptive as an educator.
