TESOL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - Jason
In this TESOL review Jason describes his experience during his TEFL/TESOL course in Shanghai, China. He talks about the hands on teaching opportunities that the course provided. The majority of ITTT's trainees who do our four week intensive course come with no prior knowledge or experience of teaching English. Our challenging but rewarding courses give trainees the confidence and skills to be able to take up teaching positions in countries all over the world.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
This unit discusses how teachers should teach pronunciation and phonology. Pronunciation tends to concentrate on individual sounds, where as phonology is the study, science, analysis and classification of the physical properties of sounds. Teachers need to show students how the same works can carry different messages depending on their intonation. Stress is also placed on certain parts of a word to show what the speaker is emphasising. Students can use dictionaries to learn how to pronounce certain words. A dictionary states meanings of words, gives its class and sometimes gives example sentences. There are different organs in the mouth, like the tongue, that are used to pronounce different sounds. These organs help students in the articulation of different words.
