This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:

Previous to taking the TEFL course I was very uncertain about how to plan a lesson and where to begin in general. The TEFL course has given me much more confidence in planning lessons. The course has given me more teaching ideas and a much broader view on the various types of teaching styles. The ESA methodology is very helpful and makes teaching make more sense. I learned the importance of planning ahead including setting aims for the teacher and students, anticipating problems and coming up with solutions beforehand. Having taken this course I think that I will be a much better prepared and organised teacher than before. One of the most interesting parts and yet more difficult parts of the course were the units on the different tenses. As a native english speaking person we hardly ever think about the various tenses and their uses. Sitting down to think these concepts through and thoroughly be aware of how we say things makes a big difference, especially if a person is planning to teach these concepts to others and have them understand the language correctly. I’ve always understood teaching to be very complex with many things to consider however I didn’t know how to approach it. The TEFL course showed me some of the many things I didn’t understand or see before however it also made them easier to understand at the same time. It also showed me that it is the little things that can make a big difference such as how students interact, class room arrangement, engaging students first off, the teacher’s role in the class room etc. Through this course I was pushed to think harder and be more creative in regards to thinking of different teaching activities. Usually we get too comfortable with the ones we already know and are used to and therefore stick with those ones. Most definitely in the future when teaching I will look back on the units for reference. At first I had many doubts about teaching english however having taken the course I have more confidence to pursue it. I think that the TEFL course is not only helpful for teaching english but for teaching in general. I saw many similarities in the TEFL course and how my old french teachers used to teach and I now understand the reasoning behind their teaching methods.
